Welcome to the TPR Catalogue
Secure online shopping for all Total Physical Response products.
Dear Colleague,
If you are new to TPR, start with a solid understanding by reading my book, Learning Another Language Through Actions and Ramiro Garcias Instructors Notebook: How to apply TPR for best results .
To ensure success, pretest a few lessons before you enter your classroom. Try the lessons out with your children, your friends or your neighbors. In doing this, you
- become convinced that TPR actually works,
- build self-confidence in the approach, and
- smooth out your delivery.
For Students of All Ages, Including Adults
Use TPR for new vocabulary and grammar, to help your students immediately understand the target language in chunks rather than word-by-word. This instant success is absolutely thrilling for students. You will hear them say to each other, Wow! I actually understand what the instructor is saying.
After a silent period of about three weeks listening to you and following your directions in the target language (without translation), your students will be ready to talk, read and write. In our books, Ramiro and I will guide you step-by-step along the way.
This catalog is loaded with activities that will keep your students excited day after day as they move towards fluency in the target language.
Best wishes for continued success,

P. S. Special invitation to graduate students: If you are planning a research project with TPR or TPR Storytelling, you are on the right track.
I would be pleased to be of assistance with your research design and statistical analysis. My e-mail is: tprworld@aol.com

New Jersey School District Uses Physical Response Method In Foreign Language Classes.
The Holmdel (NJ) Independent (12/4/08) reports, "The Middletown School District's new methodology for teaching language to elementary school children incorporates both Total Physical Response, or teaching through the use of commands, and Teaching Proficiency through Reading and Storytelling." This method of instruction "injects the lessons with both physical activity and fun as the students playact their roles and respond to both simple yes/no questions and more complex questions about who, where, when, etc." The program is seen as successful because it engages "students at all learning levels, which results in language acquisition." According to River Plaza Elementary School world language teacher Sonia Cataldo, the new program is also popular with students because it "stresses individuality by personalizing the stories to include the names of the children in each class. Equally important, no child feels inferior because every child is given the opportunity to participate at their own level."
After reading their books, you can now talk it over with the authors by e-mail - They are pleased to answer your questions about TPR:
We have been using Robertson Publishing to design and print most of our educational materials since the early 1970s. If your school or organization needs print materials or booklets I recommend that you give them a call; they are very experienced. - James J. Asher
